Solar System

In this topic we look at the beginnings of astronomy and see how technology has allowed mankind to gain a better understanding of our place in the sky. We will focus on the heliocentric model and learn about the different motions and parts of our solar system.

Apparent to Actual Motions

Students will understand how celestial objects appear to move throughout the sky and how astronomy evolved over time.

Earth's Motions

Students will be able to provide evidence of the daily and yearly motions of Earth and calculate the eccentricity of an orbit.

The Moon

Students will be able to understand the motions of the Moon, identify the different lunar phases and the motions associated with eclipses.

Fiery Sun

The Sun

Students will be able to explore the Sun's characteristics and will be introduced to the process in which it produces energy.

The Solar System

Students will be able to explore the different parts that make up our Solar System and compare planet sizes and distances between.

Topic Test Review

Students will review the concepts and key ideas from the Solar System topic in preparation for their exam.
