Measuring the Earth

This topic will help you learn about Earth's true shape, the different spheres in and around Earth and interpreting various types of maps. It focuses on latitude and longitude and applies that to more detailed topographic maps used by geologists and other earth scientists.

Spheres of Earth

Students will be able to explore the different layers within Earth and the atmosphere along with identifying their compositions and characteristics.

Latitude and Longitude

Students will be able to use the coordinate systems of latitude and longitude to locate a position on a map and use Polaris to determine latitude.

Field Maps and Isolines

Students will be able to recognize how field maps are used to plot different types of data and be able to interpret various types of isolines.

Topographic Maps and Profiles

Students will be able to interpret and understand the features on a topographic map and create topographic profiles.

Topic Test Review

Students will review the concepts and key ideas from the Measuring the Earth topic in preparation for their exam.
